Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Skype account
  1. Step 1

Log in to Skype. Open up your Skype software and enter your username and password.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you are online. Click "File," then "Change Online Status" and then click "Online." Look closely to ensure that you aren't already connected.

  3. Step 3

Ask another contact send you a file. Send your friend a quick message informing them you are ready. Then they can drag and drop a file to your name on their list or right-click your name and select “Send File.”

  4. Step 4

Once you receive the notification, accept the file transfer. Click “Save As.”

  5. Step 5

Select a folder to save the file after the transfer is finished. Pick a place where you will find it easily, like the desktop. Simply click the “Up” folder icon until you reach the desktop.

  6. Step 6

Wait for the transfer to complete. A window will appear with file transfer details and progress. Do not close this window.

  7. Step 7

View your file. Once the transfer is complete, you can either “Open” the file immediately or click “Open Folder” to access the place the saved file.

Tips & Warnings
  • Reduce your other Internet activity to avoid slow file transfers.
  • If you lose your connection, leave the window open until you reconnect and the transfer should resume.
  • Only accept file transfers from friends you trust. Do not accept unannounced transfers. Demand that the senders identify the file before accepting.
  • Always scan a file for viruses before opening.
