How to Download Drivers for a Canon Inkjet Printer

If you do not have the proper drivers for your Canon inkjet printer, the device will be unable to communicate with your computer. You can download the drivers from the Internet by following these steps.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Canon inkjet printer
  1. Step 1

    Visit the Canon Website, which contains a library of drivers and products.

  2. Step 2

    Select your country from the "Downloads" section of the front page. This tells the site which drivers you need for your specific printer.

  3. Step 3

    Click "Downloads" at the tops of the resulting page. This will take you to a screen where you can identify the type of support you need.

  4. Step 4

    Select "Consumer" from the pull-down menu in the middle of the page. This brings you to the driver screen.

  5. Step 5

    Select "Printers" from the pull-down menu on the resulting page.

  6. Step 6

    Select your printer type from the next pull-down menu.

  7. Step 7

    Select your printer model, indicated by a number listed after the make of your printer.

  8. Step 8

    Click the "Drivers/ Software" link. A new window will appear with a list of drivers.

  9. Step 9

    Select the driver that is compatible with your computer’s operating system. This starts the download.

  • Make sure you know the exact model and make of your printer before trying to download drivers.
