MySpace provides many ways to present your profile. You don't need to know HTML or JavaScript to get creative. Follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Visit MySpace (see Resources below), then click “Sign Up!” Fill out as much of the questionnaire as possible.

  2. Step 2

Upload pictures of yourself. Show all your sides: Professional, sexy, goofy and other poses. Write engaging captions.

  3. Step 3

Fill the page with your wit and charm once you've set it up. No need to be formal: If you've got something funny to say, say it.

  4. Step 4

Include applets and other features. You can find many cut-and-paste scripts on the Web. Do a search for “MySpace scripts” or “MySpace extras.” Add 2 or 3. Aim for something novel.

  5. Step 5

Change the layout. You can do this with basic HTML. Include tags while building your page or use a quick and easy Myspace editor. Search the internet for “MySpace editors” or find a link on a friend's customized page.

  6. Step 6

Add a song to your profile. Click on your favorite band’s MySpace page. In their "Songs" section, click on “Add” to add a song. It will then play automatically whenever someone visits your page.

  7. Step 7

Update often! Change your profile pic from time to time, invite subscribers and update blogs. Switch your scripts and tweak your interests. Always have something new to offer.

Tips & Warnings
  • The key is presentation. All MySpace pages essentially have the same content (photos, bios and music). Use scripts to deliver content in a compelling way: Slideshows for pictures; drop-down menus for lists of favorite bands; and links for inside jokes and obsessions.
  • Never answer a question straight out. Irony and wackiness thrive on MySpace; the prosaic withers.
  • Adopting a persona or theme for your profile can be entertaining. You don’t have to be you.
  • The '90s are over. Flashing backgrounds and blink tags won't attract return visits. Complicated codes slow older machines and test people's patience.
  • Videos can be fun, but only if others like what you like. They shouldn't be on auto-play or take much time to load.
  • Make your layout browser-friendly. Not everyone has the same resolution or uses the same browser. Your profile should be readable to all users.
