Face it, there will be times when your Palm TX's battery will fail. But a failed battery does not necessarily spell the end. Don't shell out hundreds of dollars for a new PDA. Instead, follow these steps to learn how to buy a replacement battery for the TX.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm TX

    What to Do

  1. Step 1

Check the packaging or manual that came with your Palm TX to find out the manufacturer, type and capacity of your PDA's battery. The standard Palm TX is usually packaged with an internal 1250 mAh Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Polymer Rechargeable Battery manufactured by Samsung SDI. However, if you purchased a refurbished or second hand PDA, it won't hurt to double check with the store to find out what battery your PDA will take.

  2. Step 2

Read online reviews of different battery manufacturers for your Palm TX. Find out which batteries are more reliable, whether they last as long as they claim to and whether there have been any reported conflicts with the PDA after installation. Make sure the batteries' charges match your PDA's needs. Make a list of the best batteries.

  3. Step 3

Shop around. No two stores are the same, and you should double check the batteries you've listed for the most competitive prices. The manufacturer does not allow batteries in your PDA to be replaced. Therefore, licensed dealers may not be the best place to ask for replacement batteries.

  4. Step 4

Find out the shop's reputation among customers, if possible, before purchasing. Batteries are usually non-refundable and non-returnable. However, some sellers offer warranties on their products. Go for these.

  5. Step 5

Decide whether you want a third party to install your new battery or if you would like to do this yourself. If you have never installed a battery before or if you feel uncomfortable with this idea for any reason at all, find someone who can do this for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you purchased your PDA refurbished or second hand, check with your seller for replacement batteries first. They may also be able to replace your battery or recommend someone who can.
  • Reputable Palm or PDA user groups often have detailed guides for the best batteries and stores.
  • Replacing your battery voids your warranty.
