How to Offer Contractual Services on Craigslist

Craigslist is an open forum for people to exchange goods, services and many other things. A freelance worker might not be able to make a living off Craigslist, but one certainly can supplement income. To offer contractual services on Craigslist, follow these simple steps.

1. Log onto Craigslist (see link below). If you've never been on the site, familiarize yourself with it and its conventions. Read the "Terms of Use" and "About Us" sections.

2. Click on "Post to Classifieds." The link is in blue letters in the top-left corner of the homepage.

3. Select either "Services Offered" or "Resume." Or, select both. For contractual work, both headings likely will get some hits.

4. For "Resume," simply fill out the forms and submit your resume as is suggested by the onscreen instructions.

5. Write your ad. Title it, give it a location, and fill in the description of the services you intend to offer.

6. Fill in your personal email address at the bottom of the page and click "Continue."

Tips & Warnings

• Be wary of offering services over Craigslist, as no transactions are guaranteed. It is best to only offer services to someone you can meet in person.

• Craigslist is a great way to offer jobs, hire people and look for work. It has a higher turnover rate than many competing job search Web sites.

• Do not release personal information over Craigslist. Your address, full name and any other identifying information should be kept confidential.
