Craigslist is a free online open forum and classified ad Web site. Personal ads and dating services are some of its many facets. However, the Craigslist personal ads are not regulated like an online pay service, so it is important to exercise caution if you find a date on Craigslist.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Visit the Craigslist Web site (see link below). Craigslist is divided into geographic region, so find the link on the right side of the homepage that most closely matches your area and click it.

  2. Step 2

Locate the “Personals” heading on the left side of the page about a third of the way down next to the search bar.

  3. Step 3

Click on your desired scenario. There are many combinations to choose from: men seeking women, women seeking men, strictly plutonic, etc.

  4. Step 4

Search the ads. Craigslist posts and displays ads in chronological order. The ads at the top of the page are the most recent. Find an appealing ad.

  5. Step 5

Exercise extreme caution in establishing contact. Making a fake ad or posting misleading information is very easy. If you are meeting someone for the first time, suggest a public place or a group setting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you’re in the right geographic region. The region you are searching appears at the top of the main page in black lowercase letters.
  • Always be careful when meeting someone in person that you first contacted over the Internet. It is an ideal situation for scammers and deceit of many kinds.
  • Do not release any identifying personal information such as your telephone number, address or even where you went to high school.
