Step1
Shut down your computer and turn the power off.
Step2
Unplug all the cables as well as the power cord. If your modem is connected to the phone line, remove it as well.
Step3
Place your computer on a soft dry cloth. This will prevent damage from any rough surface.
Step4
Lift the computer assembly with both hands and gently place it in such a way that the monitor faces downward on the soft cloth.
Step5
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the lower back panel of the iMac. Hold the plastic cover and gently tug to remove it once it is unscrewed. Keep the cover aside.
Step6
Touch the exposed metal surface on the logic board or drive assembly to disperse static electricity.
Step7
Disconnect the cables below the clamps. If the clamps have screws, unscrew them before removing the cables. Disconnect all the cables attached to the main logic board. Once the cables are removed, you will see a plastic handle with two screws.
Step8
Unscrew the two screws from the plastic.
Step9
Get the logic board out by pulling the plastic handle gently. Keep the logic board aside on a surface covered with a soft cloth.
Step10
Remove the metal shield below the logic board by lifting it with both hands.
Step11
Align your RAM to fit into the slot provided below the metal shield. Make sure the RAM is safely put in its slot as it makes a “snap” sound. Start the assembling process.
Step12
Put the metal shield back in its position. Hold the main logic board with its plastic handle and slide it back to the original position. Screw the two screws back into the plastic handle.
Step13
Reconnect the cables you removed earlier to the logic board. Tuck the cables below your clamp and put screws back in the clamp.
Step14
Replace the plastic cover and re-insert the screws that you had removed earlier.
Step15
Connect your cables and power cord.
Step16
Switch on your computer to check the new RAM.
Step17
Check the installed memory on your iMac. Begin using your computer.
