A USB flash memory reader works at a high speed, transferring data and images between the flash memory card and your computer. Some of the most popular flash memory readers work with all types of cards for the most trusted digital camera brands. Installing a flash memory reader is simple.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your system configuration before you install. Make sure your computer has a compatible USB port. Flash memory readers usually work on both USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports. Read the product manual before installing.

  2. Step 2

Verify the operating system on your computer. You will need to install a driver for the flash reader depending on the operating system. Each product comes with a separate driver for Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP and Mac OS versions.

  3. Step 3

Visit the product Web site and download the respective drivers. For example, if you wish to install IntelliFlash, then visit Viking InterWorks (see link below) and download the respective driver.

  4. Step 4

Install the driver first. Make sure you shut down all other programs running on the computer before beginning the installation.

  5. Step 5

Plug in your flash memory reader and check if your system detects the new hardware. If so, your installation is successful. Start using your flash memory reader.

  6. Step 6

Locate the troubleshooting page of the product site if you are unable to use the flash memory reader, despite appropriate driver installation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read the product manual for complete information on installation.
  • Check the compatibility of the reader with your digital camera before buying or installing.
  • Compatibility of the memory reader with your computer is vital. Some use a USB 2.0 port, while others will work with a USB 1.1 port.
