How to Find Employees on Craigslist

Craigslist has become the place to search for anything you need in the city of your choice. You can find a job, an employee, a girlfriend or boyfriend or an apartment all on one site. To find potential employees on Craigslist, follow the steps below.

  1. Step 1

    Create a user account on Craigslist by going to the account sign-up form, entering your email address, typing the five-letter verification word that is on the screen, and then selecting “Create Account.”

  2. Step 2

    Wait for an email to complete the sign-up process. Follow the directions in the email to confirm your account.

  3. Step 3

    Go to Craigslist and sign in. Click on the "Post to Classifieds" link on the left-hand side of the page.

  4. Step 4

    Select "Job" under the heading "What Type of Posting.” Select one or more categories from the list of choices and then click "Proceed" at the bottom of the page.

    Choose your location under the heading “Choose the Area Nearest You.” Next, under the heading “Which of These Locations Fits Best?,” narrow down your search by clicking on one of the possible locations.

  6. Step 6

    Fill out the posting form. Give your posting a title, description and an email address where interested applicants can contact you and click "Continue" at the bottom the page. You will then see a total amount due and a summary of your ad. After reading your ad, click "Continue."

  7. Step 7

    Read the conditions and then choose "Accept the Terms of Use."

  8. Step 8

    Select your payment method. Choose "Log in to an Existing Account," or pay via credit card.

  9. Step 9

    Decide how many positions you want to advertise. You can purchase one ad with a credit card or purchase a block of ads with a check or credit card.

  10. Step 10

    Sign up for a paid posting account to establish a line of credit if you plan on posting ads often. To be approved for a paid posting account, you must agree to purchase at least $675 worth of postings, or prove that you have already bought at least $675 worth of ads.

  11. Step 11

    Search resumes for potential employees. Searching for resumes is free. Just go to the Craigslist site, select your location and use the search option on the left-hand side of the page. Choose resumes from the pull-down menu and then type in a keyword to narrow down your search.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rates for job posts vary depending on the city. For example, it costs $75 to post a job in San Francisco. This fee pays for one job in one category. Posting a job in Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, Seattle or Washington D.C. costs $25.00. Postings are free in all other cities.
  • Keep in mind that all free postings are self-service. Fill out the posting form and then wait for an email. When you get an email from Craigslist, it will contain a link to an online form. This form will let you make any final changes and self-publish your ad.
  • Don't post your phone number unless you are prepared for constant phone calls.
