DVD labels are loaded into inkjet printers just like plain paper, but there are a few things you should know to avoid damaging your inkjet printer or wasting DVD labels. Follow these steps to correctly load DVD labels into an inkjet printer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Inkjet printer
  • DVD labels
  1. Step 1

Get your printer ready. Install the drivers and hook up all the necessary cables. Turn it on and wait for it to stop moving. Don’t attempt to load the labels until your printer has finished all other tasks.

  2. Step 2

Prepare your DVD labels. They should all face the same direction and be lined up like a deck of cards. Fan through the stack quickly to make sure the pages aren't stuck together and then line them up.

  3. Step 3

Set the correct paper thickness. Most printers have different settings for paper thickness. Refer to your manual to see which setting you should use. The lever should be somewhere on the outside of the printer or inside where you access the cartridges.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the moveable paper guide on the feed tray. You may have to squeeze the guide to move it. Slide it to a position that will accommodate your labels.

  5. Step 5

Place your DVD labels in the feed tray. Look for arrows or text indicating the top of the label sheet. Set a stack of DVD labels between the paper guides so the top loads in first. The front of the sheet should be facing you. Adjust the paper guide as necessary.

  6. Step 6

Choose your printer settings. Before you print, you should have the option to enter page setup or printer properties. Ensure that your printer is ready to print on labels. Some drivers have special presets for printing on DVD labels.

Tips & Warnings
  • All printer models are different. Refer to your manual for specific instructions and loading tips.
  • Always preview your print job using the "Print Preview" feature and print a test page on plain paper. DVD labels are expensive, so don’t waste them.
  • For best results, use software specifically designed for printing DVD labels. Buy labels that come with packaged software or check to see which programs are recommended for your labels.
  • Only load as many sheets as you need. Overloading your printer cause a jam.
