MySpace lets people from all over the world upload and share pictures, rant on blogs, send email, check out profiles and make friends. Once you have an account, you can browse other members' profiles to find dates or create a network of business contacts. Your MySpace account allows you to post your thoughts and opinions on forums covering topics ranging from games to science, to travel and vacations. Follow these steps to get started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Go online and head to the MySpace website.

  2. Step 2

Look for the member log-in box on the MySpace home page. Inside the box, you should see an orange “Sign Up!” button. Click on this button to start the process.

  3. Step 3

Fill in the required fields on the sign-up page. You’ll need an email address to get started.

  4. Step 4

Set your password to something easy for you to remember. Confirm in the box immediately below.

  5. Step 5

Read the terms and privacy statements and indicate that you accept those terms.

  6. Step 6

Fill in the verification numbers. The patterns and colors that overlay the verification numbers are meant to defeat automatic systems which spammers use to infest public sites like MySpace.

  7. Step 7

Upload a picture of yourself so people can put a face to your name.

  8. Step 8

Enter information into your profile. Click on “Edit Profile” and tell people about your favorite books, movies and heroes. Keep any personal information, like phone numbers and addresses, secret.

  9. Step 9

Start using MySpace and invite your friends to join.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also go to the upper right-hand corner of the MySpace homepage and click on the “Sign Up” link to register.
  • Use the FAQ section if you need help.
  • Practice good security habits with your password. Include at least one number or special character and one uppercase letter in the password (for example: B1ngo).
  • You can skip loading pictures or inviting friends to join for now. You always have the option of doing it later.
  • Do not post telephone numbers, physical addresses, last names, pornography or violent content on MySpace. While the open and public nature of this site makes it possible to share videos and good times with friends, it also means that anyone could be watching right along with them.
