Most MySpace users find the site handy for finding long-lost friends, getting concert information for their favorite bands or possibly promoting their own talents. It is very common for up-and-coming actors to showcase their abilities on MySpace as an easy way for self-promotion, but some may not be familiar with how to go about this. Here is how to build a MySpace page for an actor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Go to the MySpace Web site and create your own account. This is very simple and only requires a little information and an email for verification.

  2. Step 2

Customize your page with a variety of photos and text. Click on the “Edit Profile” link to begin filling in information about your career, likes, dislikes, goals and dreams.

  3. Step 3

List your accomplishments. This can include previous roles you’ve taken on since you’ve become an actor/actress.

  4. Step 4

Customize your page's background, colors and music to support your acting persona. Find things that will complement your personal style and attract casting directors to view your page.

  5. Step 5

Provide pictures or video clips of your performances. Keep them recent.

  6. Step 6

Invite viewers to your site. Once you’ve completed the work on your site, advertise it! Invite and add friends and agencies to see your site so you can build a fan base and possibly receive job offers from agencies impressed with your site.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep it simple. It’s good to keep the design of your site quite straightforward and plain. This allows for quick navigation and keeps the attention of your viewers for longer periods of time.
  • Put forth the best presentation of yourself possible. When inputting information into your profile, don't include any information that could potentially damage your career.
  • Don’t add anything too flashy or distracting to your site. Graphics and backgrounds are fine as long as they pertain to your subject matter and are not too busy. If they distract you from the main goal of your page, they will probably distract viewers as well.
  • Never give out personal information such as your phone number or address until you are sure of who you are giving it to. Some people may pose as agents to lure you.

on 11/7/2008 Good article - using the web is very important for performers! I've actually just launched a site - www.blueoverture.com, for just this purpose, but geared specifically towards performing and visual artists.

I have to say, I couldn't agree more with the tip about avoiding flashy distractions on sites!
