How to Find Volunteer Opportunities on Craigslist

Whether you are a committed do-gooder or are you're just putting in community-service hours, Craigslist is an excellent place to find volunteer opportunities. All you have to do is fire up your browser and surf on over to the Craigslist Web site.

Instructions

1. Visit the Craigslist Web site (see link below).

2. Select your state from the list on the right-hand side of the page. Choose the one you live in or want to volunteer in.

3. Select your region or city. If yours isn't listed, choose the one closest to you.

4. Click "Volunteers" under the "Community" heading.

5. Click on a link that seems interesting and read the details.

6. Reply if you are interested, using the poster's preferred method specified in the post.

7. Return to the front page if you don't see anything you like (click the "Craigslist" link in the top-left corner). Type "Volunteer" into the search box on the left and select "Community" in the pull-down menu just below. Click the arrow to view your results.

Tips & Warnings

• If your area isn't listed when you are selecting a region, go ahead and suggest it. Craigslist may consider adding your area.

• You can always make a posting yourself. Offer your services by clicking "Post to Classifieds" on the front page. Let people know you are looking to volunteer.

• Be wary of scams. Read the "Avoid Scams and Fraud" section by clicking the link on the left of the Craigslist homepage before posting or replying.
