How to Add Plugins to Your WordPress Blog

Plugins are scripts that you can add to your blog to increase functionality or enhance functions you already use. Adding plugins to a WordPress blog is a snap with these easy steps.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Locate the plugin you wish to install, and read the read-me file that came with it.

  2. Step 2

    Open WordPress.

  3. Step 3

    Go to the Administrative Panel.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the Plugins tab.

  5. Step 5

    Upload the plugin into the plugins directory (wp-content/plugins).

  6. Step 6

    Make any changes to any templates or forms as required in the read-me file.

  7. Step 7

    Return to the "Plugins" tab in the Administrative Panel, and scroll down the list to see the newly installed plugin.

  8. Step 8

    Click on the "Activate" link and your plugin is ready to go!

Tips & Warnings
  • Become as familiar as you can with what the plugin will do.
  • Become familiar with your template and design information, to make it easier to use any plugin that requires you modify these files.
  • If your plugin requires troubleshooting, double-check that you have activated the plugin. This is a common error.
