Promoting your music on MySpace is a simple task that anyone can do. If you have P3 versions of your music and Internet access, you can have a MySpace music site up and running in no time. All you have to do is create a MySpace artist account, which gives you the ability to upload songs that you own onto your musician site. Here is how to promote your music on MySpace.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • MySpace account
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a MySpace artist account: On the MySpace Web site (see link below), click on the "More Music" link in the light-blue MySpace Music menu bar half-way up the screen. (Do not go directly to the Sign-Up link, because you want to create an artist account, not just a regular MySpace personal account.) This will take you to the Music page.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Artist Sign-Up link" (the far-right link in the red "MySpace Music" bar near the top.) Fill in your email address and password, and agree to the terms of service.

  3. Step 3

Fill out your personal and band information. Select your genre of music, upload band photos and describe your band and members however you see fit.

  4. Step 4

Email invites to friends and acquaintances. (After completing the basic sign-up steps, you will be guided to an email form page.) They will see a personal message from you and be given the URL to your MySpace music page.

  5. Step 5

Upload four uncompressed mp3 files of your own music to your site. You can make these tracks downloadable or simply have them on your site for fans to listen to samples of your music.

  6. Step 6

Add other sites as friends. When you visit other MySpace sites, you can request to add that site as a friend. If the person or artist accepts, you will appear on their friends page and they will appear on yours.

  7. Step 7

Seek out new friends and ask that they listen to your music or post your music on their own page. Send out bulletins announcing any gigs or band news.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have pictures, MP3 files and any other information handy as you create your site. This will allow you to get a functional site up and running within your first visit.
  • Have an email list of your friends ready for that first invitation email.
  • Keep in mind that the most important aspect of the MySpace community is your group of friends.
  • Do not plagiarize material or host music on your site that is not your own, or MySpace will remove your account.
  • Do not post your personal email address on your profile page unless you don’t mind who has access to it.
