How to Automatically Clean an Inkjet Cartridge

Are there streaks down the middle of the pages you're printing? Or, maybe the ink is dark in some spots and illegible in others. You probably have a clogged ink cartridge. Follow these steps to learn how to automatically clean your inkjet cartridge.

Things You'll Need:

  • inkjet printer
  • computer
  1. Step 1

    Turn on your printer. The switch is generally located on the top right-hand side of the printer.

  2. Step 2

    Turn on your computer and go to the “Start” menu. It's usually located in the bottom left corner on the main page of your computer.

  3. Step 3

    Select “Settings.” For some computers, it may be located under “Control Panel."

  4. Step 4

    Choose “Printers.” Double-click the icon for your printer.

  5. Step 5

    Pick the “Print Manager” box. You'll then be prompted to choose “Printer Menu,” then “Properties.”

  6. Step 6

    Select the button marked “Cleaning.” You may have to choose "Maintenance" or a similar term.

  7. Step 7

    Wait for the process to finish. You may want to test the ink levels to ensure everything is working properly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for synonyms. The exact wording will vary between types. Take your time to avoid any frustration.
  • Avoid clogging your cartridges by using your printer at least once a week.
  • Repeat the process if necessary. After the process is complete, the cartridge may still be clogged. One more repetition may solve the problem.
