How to Print Directly on a DVD From an Inkjet Printer
Printing directly onto a DVD from an inkjet printer is far superior to affixing adhesive labels. It is quicker, easier, more reliable and looks better. Follow these basic steps to begin printing directly on a DVD from an inkjet printer.
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase a DVD printer. Many newer inkjet printers offer this as a feature in addition to photo and document printing. Shop around and read reviews before you decide on one.
-
2
Purchase printable media. You will need "inkjet printable" DVDs if you are going to print directly. Other DVD-R's will not absorb the ink.
-
-
3
Run a couple blank sheets through the printer. Load up some paper and press the cancel button to run it through. This will clean the rollers. Do this once or twice.
-
4
Find the DVD tray. This may be built in or come separate. Refer to your manual if you can't find it. Pull it out once you do.
-
5
Place the DVD in the tray. Set it printable side up in the circular depression in the tray. Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the tray or on the CD.
-
6
Load the tray. If it is built-in, re-insert the tray, DVD and all. If it is a manual feed, wait until you've told your printer to print.
-
7
Design a label. Use the bundled software to create graphics to print.
-
8
Choose your print settings. Go to your printer properties and change the media type to CD or DVD. This is important. If you are using bundled software, the program may do it for you.
-
9
Print. Go ahead and select "File | Print" and click "okay." When your computer prompts you, load the manual tray. The feed is usually on the back.

Tips & Warnings
