How to Troubleshoot an Epson Color Laser Printer

Is your Epson color printer not printing properly? Is it eating paper and shooting out gibberish? Epson has several different ways to help you fix your printer. Here are some tips on how to troubleshoot an Epson color laser printer.

  • Epson color laser printer
  1. Step 1

    Look at the printer. Check all plugs to make sure they are connected properly. Make sure there is paper in the printer.

  2. Step 2

    Borrow someone to help you. Have a friend look at the printer. Is there something you might be missing? Even the most trained eye misses something every now and then.

  3. Step 3

    Pinpoint the problem area. You don’t need to be able to diagnose the exact problem in this step; you just need to narrow your scope. Are you having problems with the ink or paper supply? There is a completely different course of action for each problem area.

  4. Step 4

    Find the troubleshooting area in your owner’s manual. You will be able to find step-by-step instructions on how to diagnose and fix common problems. Just follow the instructions here and you should be set.

  5. Step 5

    Go to the Epson Web site for more help (see below). There are easy instructions there that can help you with most problems.

  6. Step 6

    Pick up the phone and call customer service. They will be able to guide you through more detailed instructions to get your printer back on track. Also, if you need parts or need to send the printer in for more in depth work, they will be able assist there.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the paper supply line to make sure there are no small pieces of paper blocking the track. Make sure that your paper in the load tray is free of folds and wrinkles and is crisp.
  • Remove the toner cartridge, shake it and replace it. Sometimes all you need to do is shake the cartridge to put it back in working order.
  • Try turning the printer off and then back on. That might be all it needs to fix whatever is wrong.
  • Customer service toll free lines can sometimes be very jammed up. Be ready for a wait at peak times. Don’t get frustrated.
