Replacement batteries for Palm PDA’s are not offered by the company, so you’re out of luck, right? No. Plenty of third-party manufacturers have made lithium-ion batteries to the specifications that your Palm PDA requires. So when your batteries lose the ability to hold a charge, you don’t have to buy a new Palm PDA, but you do have to go shopping. Here is how to buy a replacement battery for a Palm PDA.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm PDA
  1. Step 1

Find out what kind of battery your Palm uses. The batteries are not interchangeable between every model of PDA. Get the part number and the technical specifications for the battery.

  2. Step 2

Check local retailers first. Look for a Palm PDA replacement battery at battery specialty stores, electronics stores or cell phone retailers. Ask the sales staff for assistance tracking down your battery.

  3. Step 3

Go online and hunt down your make and model of battery. Compare prices at the electronic stores and factor in the cost of shipping before choosing the best deal.

  4. Step 4

Ask about money-back guarantees and return policy before purchasing, regardless of who you buy from. Please note that putting in a replacement battery for your Palm PDA may require soldering the new battery in place, so returns may not be an option.

  5. Step 5

Wait for replacement batteries to hit the market. Newer model PDA’s may not have replacement batteries available yet. Give the market time to catch up with customer demand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get a tool kit so you can change your battery. Some vendors sell these bundled with a replacement battery. At a minimum you will need a selection of star-bit screwdrivers and a prying tool that will not damage the case of your Palm PDA.
  • Make sure the replacement battery comes with step-by-step instructions. Illustrated instructions are a real plus, if available.
  • Replacing the battery of your Palm PDA requires prying open the plastic case to get at the power cell inside. This probably voids your warranty.
