    Instructions

      • 1

To book accommodations, contact Eurail at 1-866-638-7245 or visit their Web site (see Resources, below). Start by selecting 'Train Tickets and Schedules' from the drop-down menu on the left side of the page. Select the date and time you would like to depart from Oslo (bearing in mind that this trip takes approximately 8 hours).

      • 2

Choose whether you want a one-way or round trip ticket, then type 'Oslo' in the 'From' box and 'Copenhagen' in the 'To' box.

      • 3

Decide whether you need to save money with an economy class ticket (and sleep sitting up), or whether you would rather upgrade to first class accommodations that come with a sleeper car. Sleeping accommodations may be a good idea on this long trip should you be traveling at night.

Enter all requested contact, payment and shipping information, then wait for your tickets to arrive in the mail and put them with all of the other travel documents you will be taking with you to Norway.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Danish and Norwegian are very similar languages, although it is often said (by Norwegians) that Danish sounds like Norwegian spoken 'with a potato in the throat'.

    • Danish pastries are even better in Denmark! Also be sure to try the chocolate. Scandinavian chocolate is not as well-known as Belgian or Swiss chocolate, but it is every bit as good! Chocolate is one of the food items you can always purchase on the train.

    • As you must travel through Sweden to get to Copenhagen from Oslo, you may be able to save quite a bit with a rail pass (check the selection at RailEurope).

    • Beer aficionados may have difficulty choosing between the Norwegian and Danish brews offered in the dining cars. You may be tempted to choose one of each, but as they are quite strong (much stronger than the versions of those brands that are exported), this might not be such a good idea.

    • You cannot book a trip less than 5 days in advance of travel (realistically, you should allow even more time than that for the tickets to arrive in the mail) or more than 60 days in advance.
