Tips & Warnings
Norwegian weather can change pretty quickly at any time of year, especially in mountain regions, so bring a sweater no matter what time of year you travel (even in July).
You will need to supply your own currency calculator (or use an online one) when you book tickets at the Norwegian State Railways Web site, as it only lists ticket prices in Norwegian Kroner (NOK).
The beer served in the dining car is very tasty, but it may go to your head pretty quickly at mountain altitudes, so don't be tempted to imbibe too much.
Luggage storage space is quite limited on Norwegian trains, but many travelers carry outsized backpacks which take up a lot of space and can make overly crowded trains seem even more claustrophobic should you be traveling at a peak season. All the more incentive to book your seat reservation in advance!
