Things You'll Need:
- Computer with Internet access to make reservations
-
Step 1
To book accommodations, contact Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism at (800) 665-0204 or visit their Web site (see Resources, below). Consider a mid-priced hotel from one of the large chains if your budget permits. Many hotels in Winnipeg are quite cheap, running from $50 to $100 per night.
-
Step 2
Stay at a motor lodge or motel for cheap accommodations. Expect to pay less than $50 per night, even if you're part of a large group.
-
Step 3
Choose one of the many campgrounds surrounding Winnipeg for cheap accommodations. Canada is a haven for campers.
-
Step 4
Visit one of Winnipeg's many hostels designed for backpackers and students. Rates can be less than $10 per night.
-
Step 1
Fly to Winnipeg International Airport.
-
Step 2
Consider renting a car as your best option in Winnipeg. The city is quite spread out, and because it can get very cold, you want to avoid having to wait at a bus stop for long periods of time.
-
Step 3
Use the bus if you want to confine your travels to the inner city. Winnipeg Transit runs buses from the airport to downtown every twenty minutes.
-
Step 1
Visit Fort Whyte Nature Centre, within the city limits. You can stroll across boardwalks through the marshes, visit the enclosed 70-acre bison habitat, and see many native birds and fish.
-
Step 2
Visit the Winnipeg Zoo, which is considered to be one of the finest in Canada.
-
Step 3
See the Western Canadian Aviation Museum for its large collection of historical aircraft.
-
Step 4
Take a ride on the river in a paddlewheel boat or a canoe in the summertime.
