Limousines are a lot like hotels: they can comfortably seat five or six people, they have a well-stocked bar, and “room service” simply requires pressing a button and issuing instructions to the driver. So why is it that some people behave so badly in a limo when they would never think of trashing a $500-a-night luxury suite? Here is how to keep your limo ride stress free for you, your other passengers, and the driver.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Be where you are supposed to be. Technically, a botched pickup is no big deal to the limo company. After all, you’re going to be billed for the ride, whether you and your friends are waiting in the right place or not. However, your guests may not appreciate cooling their heels for hours at a bus station downtown when you actually told the limo driver to pick you up at your house.
Step2
Let the driver open the doors. Yes, you may be eager to impress your girfriend, but you’ll have to settle for her wonderment about the magnificent transportation you’ve arranged—it’s strictly the limo driver’s job to open the door for guests. Having a tug-of-war over the door handle is not a good way to start a fancy evening (and if you lose, your manhood may be called into question).
Step3
Don’t play “pack the limo.” The reason a limo company asks how many guests you’ll be bringing is so it can dispatch a vehicle of the right size. Suddenly doubling your guest count will necessitate a long wait as the driver radios for a bigger limo (and no, no mattter how much you bribe him, he will not let you stuff 20 people into his tricked-up sedan).
Step4
Keep the drinking to a minimum. Part of the fun of riding a limo is having sufficient room (and sufficiently robust shock absorbers) to pour out a champagne toast. But if it’s a two-hour ride to your destination, getting smashed will only annoy your driver and incur additional expenses (such as when your pal slices open the back-seat upholstery on the theory that “someone rich must have hidden diamonds in there.”)
Step5
Be nice to the driver. It’s usually in your driver’s interest to convey you quickly and safely to your destination, but if you insult him needlessly (“Hey, Pedro! Don’t they teach you how to drive in Peru?), he may just as well let you off at an abandoned coal mine on the outskirts of town. Also, remember that it’s customary to tip your driver at least 20 percent (this is often figured into the bill, so be sure to check your paperwork).

on 12/31/2006 As the driver of both celebrities and the public for 15 years here are my tips. If your driver tells you his name use it. Don't call him "Dude" or "Driver" unless you don't care about him offering his best service. If you get in the limo and start pressing all the buttons you are telling the world (and your driver) that you've never been in a Limo before. Though the Tip is often on the bill the Limo Companies often monkey with the ammount, shorting the driver. They live and die by the cash they see so if you are able offer a cash tip even if it's small. Tell the chauffeur "I know the tip is on the Bill but get a coffee or dinner or a Lexus on me." Finally do not expect the driver to break the law or allow you to break the law. Their car and their licsense ARE their job so asking them to drive fast because you are late or find you drugs or alcohol are bad ideas. I once had young film stars run from the police back to the limo and order me to drive away. They were shocked when I waited on the police and unlocked the doors. The limo is not a foreign embassy or a church offering sanctuary. The good news is that if you treat your chauffeur with respect, there is nothing they won't do for you. We know everything about everything and if given the chance can make your evening magical.

on 12/31/2006 Please, little girls, you are not hot, cute or sexy when you SCREAM at the top of your tiny little lungs out the top or windows of the limo.
You are annoying little children to all who see and unfortunately hear you.
Have your own little fun with your friends...no need to share with us "less fortunate" pedestrians.
(Plus, I will dial 911 and report what "sounds like an attack on a female" if I am in bed trying to sleep!)

on 5/7/2007 When hiring a limousine service there some things you should be aware like: always compare prices in relation with the expected service.
Always check out the year (2-3 years old are the best), make and model of the limousine.
Do not be tricked by the price of the advertisements, as many companies hide extra prices.
The most simple and standardized limousine service will have the limousine, driver and beverages.
When it comes to the driver, make sure that the service provider will provide a uniformed driver with proper licence and experience. to see more tips see for example http://www.booklimo.co.uk/
