1. Go to the Craigslist Web site (see link below). Choose your local community from the right-hand column.

2. Click on your desired category or item in the "For Sale" column. Now click the arrow button.

3. Scroll down to see available items for sale. Click on any item of interest to see photos, specific information and the contact information of the seller.

4. Type a description of your item in the "Searching For" box at the top of the page, select the type of item from the "In" box, type your minimum and maximum prices in the respective boxes and click 'search.' Then choose your item from the listings available.

5. Go back to the main page and search for your desired item in nearby communities if needed.

6. Click on the reply link or the seller's Web site to contact the seller.

Tips & Warnings

• Factor in the cost of your gas and time if you have to drive to a nearby community to pick up the item you want.

• Ask as many questions as you can of the seller to determine that you are getting exactly the item you desire before committing to the purchase.

• Avoid sending cash, cashier's checks, money orders or wire transfers. Once your money is in someone else's hands, there is no guarantee that they will hold up their end of the bargain.
