Craigslist is wildly popular among Internet users across the nation. This diverse Web site can be used to buy and sell products for free. Here's how to determine whether Craigslist is a good place to sell your products, and how to post a free classified ad on the site:

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer

Determine if Craigslist is Available in Your City

Step1
Go to the Craigslist Web site (see link below).
Step2
Look for your state or location on the far right side of the Craigslist page. Click on the link.
Step3
Now look for your city. Click on your city or the city nearest your location.
Step4
If your city is listed, that is a good indicator that Craigslist is used in your area. If your city is not listed, you may have trouble finding buyers for your items.

Determine if What You are Selling is Commonly Sold on Craigslist

Step1
Go to your city on Craigslist.
Step2
Look for the “Search Craigslist” area on the right of the page.
Step3
Click on the drop-down arrow underneath the search box and pick the appropriate category.
Step4
Type in the item that you intend to sell in the search box. Click the arrow to go to the next step. Be sure that “For Sale” was chosen in the drop-down box.
Step5
Enter a minimum and maximum price. Once you have determined whether what you are selling is commonly sold on Craigslist, go back to the city page.

Post Your Ad on Craigslist

Step1
Click on “Post to Classifieds” and choose which category and subcategory fits what you are selling. Now you will create your ad.
Step2
Enter a title and description of your services or item and provide an email address. Click “Continue.”
Step3
Enter the verification word and click “Continue,” or choose “Edit” to fix any problems with the article.
Step4
Accept or decline the terms of use. You will be sent a link to your email that will give you the choice to publish, edit or delete your ad.
Step5
Post another ad or return to the homepage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your ad short and to the point. Only include important information.
  • Make sure your ad catches readers' attention.
  • Do not post any personal information. After all, you do not know who is viewing the ad.
