Replacing the rechargeable battery in the Palm TX requires a bit of patience, some skill with tools and a willingness to fiddle with electronics. If you're the kind of person that can field-strip a VCR, then doing a battery replacement for the TX PDA will present no problems. Otherwise, hire a skilled technician.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • palm tx
  • star-bit screwdriver
  • flat prying tool
  • glue
  • new battery for pda
  1. Step 1

Clear a space on a flat, well-lit surface and set the Palm TX down. Turn it over so the screen is face-down.

  2. Step 2

Take a star-bit screwdriver and first loosen each screw on the back of the PDA's case. After you have loosened all the screws, remove them.

  3. Step 3

Get a flat tool, such as a standard head screwdriver, and use it to loosen the case halves. Once the case halves have been loosened, separate them and carefully fold the Palm TX open.

  4. Step 4

Find the battery and disconnect the wires running from it to the rest of the internal components. Loosen the battery from the case and remove.

  5. Step 5

Dab a bit of glue where the original battery was, and then put the new battery in the TX. Allow the glue to dry before reassembling the case.

  6. Step 6

Connect the battery to the PDA.

  7. Step 7

Put the case halves back together and replace the screws.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your warranty information before attempting to replace the battery yourself.
  • Work slowly and carefully when separating the case halves. Steady pressure is required, not sharp force.
  • Be very careful when loosening the case halves. Do not let the flat tool you are using as a pry bar slip and damage the case or the electronic components.

on 8/11/2009 Missing step 0. "Carefully remove leather cover from Palm TX. Look carefully at the way the cover was attached. You will have to replace it later."

At step 4, "disconnect the wires running from it ..", you can just cut the battery wires at the point they attach to the battery.

At step 5 "Dab a bit of glue..", I found that there was enough glue left from the original Palm battery so that this was not necessary.

Step 6, "connect the battery to the PDA", should read "Connect and solder the wires from the new battery to the wires that had been attached to the old battery. Wrap soldered wires with electrical tape for insulation."
