Instructions

    • 1

First, check to make sure that you need to change the cartridge. Toner is a dry ink and sometimes by shaking the cartridge, you can free the clumps of ink and hold out a bit longer on changing it.

    • 2

Purchase a new ink cartridge that is compatible with your printer. You can do this online or at most office supply stores.

    • 3

Take your cartridge out of the box and give it a good shake. Again, the ink is dry and you need to make sure it isn't clumped up.

    • 4

Remove the tape that is covering the holes of the cartridge. The tape should have a small tab that will make removal easy.

    • 5

Take the old cartridge out of the printer. Each printer will be a bit different, but normally you will open the top or front of the machine and pull the plastic toner cartridge straight out. There may be a silver bar on the top that you will have to pull before freeing the cartridge.

    • 6

Insert the new cartridge. You should feel/hear a small snap as it clicks into place.

    • 7

Print a test page to make sure that everything is in order. If there is a problem, make sure you removed the tape and that the cartridge is snapped into place properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • The cartridge will go back in the same way that it came out. If you watch how you pulled it out, it will be easy to put back in place.

  • If you are having problems, you have a few options for further troubleshooting. Consult your owner's manual, visit the manufacturer's Web site or call their help desk phone number.

  • The packaging that your toner comes in normally has instructions for installation that are easy to follow.

  • Recycle your old cartridge.

  • If you forget to remove the tape on the cartridge before inserting it into the printer, it will not function.
