Many bloggers prefer using WordPress for posting their weekly podcasts. One advantage of WordPress is their support for podcasting includes automatically adding the enclosure tags for the RSS feed.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Record your podcast and save it as a media file in either MP3 or MP4 format.

  2. Step 2

Store your podcast media file on a server host site. There are many sites on the web that host file storage, including OurMedia and Internet Archive.

  3. Step 3

Login to your WordPress account and create a new blog post.

  4. Step 4

Create a link to your media file in your post using a complete URL which includes the "http://" portion of the address.

  5. Step 5

Publish your post and check to see that your file link can be accessed.

  6. Step 6

Create an RSS link on your WordPress page so that your feed will be available. For example it could look like this--http://yourblog.com/wordpress/?feed=rss2.

Tips & Warnings
  • Post your podcasts on the same day of each week, preferably at the same time.
  • Keep your podcast at 30 minutes or less in order to keep your listeners' interest.
  • Always make sure your file link can be accessed after you publish your post. If it can't, you may have left off part of the URL.
  • Avoid using copyrighted music in your podcasts.
  • If you don't use a complete URL for your podcast file's location it cannot be made into an enclosure by WordPress.
  • If you use Archive.org as your server host site, you'll need a Custom Field named "enclosure" and to type the complete URL for your file in the Value field.
  • If you plan on promoting an upcoming event on your podcast, it's a good idea to begin mentioning it at least a couple of weeks in advance.

on 7/10/2009 All good advice! There is a WordPress plugin called Podcasting that can help, too. And having a good microphone is essential. I wrote a blog post about the microphone I use here:
