Virtually every inkjet cartridge can be refilled, so if you want to buy a refillable inkjet cartridge, you can pretty much just grab one at random. If you want to be absolutely sure you are getting a cartridge that you can refill, you have to work backwards. It goes like this: if you can find an inkjet refill kit, then the cartridge can be probably be refilled and used again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Inkjet printer
  1. Step 1

Go to a computer or office supply store armed with your printer’s make and model and the product number of the print cartridges. A copy center might be a worth checking out, too.

  2. Step 2

Ask the sales staff to help you find an inkjet refill kit that is compatible with your print cartridges. A good refill kit uses quality ink, has clear instructions and includes any special tools you may need when performing this operation.

  3. Step 3

Read the fine print on the refill kit. Make sure that the kit does work with your cartridges. If so, congratulations! Your cartridges are refillable.

  4. Step 4

Put the refill kit in your shopping basket and head over to the new inkjet cartridges section. While you’re here, you might as well get another printer cartridge to make the refilling process a little smoother.

  5. Step 5

Select a compatible cartridge for your printer. This will be your spare to use when you need to refill.

  6. Step 6

Settle up the bill at the check-out counter and head for home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the number of uses you get from the kit. Some are meant for a single use while others can fill your inkjet cartridges over and over.
  • Bring the original inkjet cartridge packaging with you if possible.
  • Keep your spare inside the original packaging until needed. Once you have taken the cartridge out of the packaging, you will need to store it in an air-tight container between uses to prevent the ink from drying out.
  • Go online if you can’t find an inkjet refill kit at your local stores. Comparison shop at several sites for the best deal and to verify that your inkjet cartridge can be refilled.
  • Not all cartridges work in all printers, nor do all refill kits work with every cartridge. Check compatibility before making your purchase.
