Keeping fresh and new content on your Web site can be fun and easy by using Google Groups. There are loads of writers on the Internet looking for ways to share their work and have others read what they have written. By following these steps, you can find many articles in Google Groups for your Web site.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by going to Google online.

  2. Step 2

In the center of the main page, you will see a search box and links to the following; Web, Images, Video, News, Maps, and more.

  3. Step 3

Click on "More" and a small box will open, click on "Groups."

  4. Step 4

When the new window loads, you will see two search boxes.

  5. Step 5

In the second search box labeled "Find a group," type in something like "Free content," "Free articles," or "Articles for Web sites."

  6. Step 6

On the results page, you will see several different groups listed.

  7. Step 7

You will need to read the descriptions of the different groups to find exactly what you are looking for, which are articles you can use on your Web site.

  8. Step 8

If a description looks good, you can right click on the title of the group and that group's homepage will open in a new window.

  9. Step 9

On the homepages you will most likely see one of the following three statements:
    * You cannot view or post messages because you are not currently a member. Anyone can join.
    * This group is announcement-only. You cannot post messages because you are not a manager.
    * You cannot post messages because only members can post, and you are not currently a member.

  10. Step 10

The last one is what you are looking for. This means you can read and republish the articles posted without being a member of the group.

  11. Step 11

Once you find a group that offers articles, you can search that group for articles specifically suited for your Web site, where it says "Search this group."

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find a group that offers a good share of articles you want to use on your Web site, you may want to consider joining this group. When you join, you will be notified by email when there are new articles posted. That way you don't have to search through the group every time you are looking for another article.
  • When you are checking out Google Groups, take a look on the home page for the number of members in the group and the number of articles available. Larger numbers mean larger selections of articles for your Web site.
  • Before using an article posted on a Google Group, make sure you read the requirements for using the article. Bylines and/or links back are common.
