Know Your Destination
Step1
Get acquainted with antiquity. The first inhabitants of Tempe are believed to be the Anasazi, a prehistoric culture of Pueblo people that once dominated the southwestern U.S.
Step2
Learn the value of higher education. Tempe is home to the State University of Arizona, the grounds of which started as a donated 5-acre patch of cow pasture in 1885 and has grown to include 700 acres on its campus.
Choose Your Tempe Accommodations
Step1
There are many hotel/motel chain accommodations in Tempe and surrounding areas. Rates can be fairly cheap, starting at $50 a night. To book any Tempe accommodations, contact Tempe Convention and Visitors Bureau at (480) 894-8158 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).
Step2
Consider staying at the only bed and breakfast in Tempe--and an Irish one at that. A Valley O' the Sun Bed and Breakfast is located near the Arizona State University and offers accommodations as cheap as $50 to $65 per night.
Step3
Consider camping for your cheap accommodations. Campsites generally cost $25 a night or less.
Step4
Book your room in a central location. If you put on your walking shoes, you can head downtown and browse over 100 boutiques, galleries and eateries near the University campus.
Step5
Check out the city's official visitor's Web site to learn more about area accommodations (see resources).
Step6
Be a part of the action with accommodations close to campus. Many cultural and entertainment venues in Tempe are located on the Arizona State University campus (ASU).
