Most keyboards have a PS/2 interface. However, a computer (desktop or laptop) usually has a single PS/2 interface. Subsequently keyboards with USB interface are gaining popularity. Such keyboards can be connected to the USB port (a computer has multiple USB ports). In fact, you can also connect a PS/2 keyboard in a USB port.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a reliable PS/2 to USB adapter. There are several brands. Search online, browse through Web sites of major retailers such as BestBuy and CompUSA (see links, below) or research buyers’ guides such as MySimon (see link, below) to get more information about features and pricing of various PS/2 to USB adapters.

  2. Step 2

Install the driver software from the installation CD (comes with the adapter). Some adapters don’t need any software to be installed.

  3. Step 3

Connect the PS/2 connector of the keyboard to the adapter.

  4. Step 4

Connect the adapter to the USB port of the computer. You are ready to use the PS/2 keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some adapters may require you to run optimizing software, especially in the case of Apple Macintosh.
