How to Use an External Keyboard with a Laptop

1. Determine the type of port your laptop has. Most old laptops have a round port, called a PS/2. Most new models carry a USB port.
2. Buy a keyboard that is compatible with your laptop's port.
3. Connect your PS/2 keyboard to the PS/2 port. Alternatively, connect your USB keyboard to the USB port. Configure the device using the setup wizard.
4. You also might consider connecting a wireless keyboard. Be sure your laptop and the wireless keyboard are compatible. Insert batteries into the wireless keyboard, connect the wireless receiver to your computer and install the software.
