Buying a monitor for your computer is usually a one-time investment. It can be expensive if you intend to buy a larger monitor. The price also depends on the type of monitor—Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) or Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). LCD monitors are preferred over CRT monitors as they use an advanced technology, are compact, light in weight and deliver higher picture quality. However they are more expensive, especially the larger ones. Nevertheless, manufacturers and sellers offer frequent deals on large monitors. Here’s how you can find a good deal on a larger monitor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research and understand different models and brands of large monitors. This can be done by visiting a local electronic store or browsing through Web sites of major electronic retailers such as CompUSA, Best Buy and Circuit City.

  2. Step 2

Compare prices and deals, online vis-à-vis the ones available at retail stores. You may find that the prices online are low compared to the prices in a store. However, study the seller’s details (and reviews) carefully before buying.

  3. Step 3

Visit the manufacturer’s Web site to look for the lowest price or promotional offers on large monitors. Look for any refurbished monitors, which are usually solder at lower prices.

  4. Step 4

Manufactures often e-mail promotional offers and alerts on their products, including large monitors. Sign up to receive such promotional mails, offers and alerts.

  5. Step 5

Do plenty of Internet research. Often, authorized sellers advertise their deals on consumer Web sites. Browse through online groups and forums, too, which may carry ads from monitor manufacturers.

  6. Step 6

Check out online buyers guides such as Epinions and MySimon (see links below). These sites offer a comparison of various brands of large monitors and list numerous vendors along with their listed prices.

  7. Step 7

Look for portals that offer deals on various products including computer components. You can find many such sites by searching for "Deals," "Computer Deals" and "Online Deals" on Google or Yahoo!.

  8. Step 8

Check out online auction portals such as eBay (see link below). You may get great deals on used large monitors there.

  9. Step 9

Compare prices of large CRT monitors and LCD monitors. The prices of LCD monitors have come down, but they are still a bit more expensive than CRT models, so a CRT may be the way to go if you really want a big monitor on a smaller budget.
