CareerBuilder is one of the largest job portals displaying job opportunities in various categories. It provides information about job opportunities in the United States as well as other countries. Searching for a new job on CareerBuilder is not difficult. Here’s how you can search for a new job on CareerBuilder.

Assessing Various Options for Finding a Job on CareerBuilder

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Note that you do not need to be a registered user to search for jobs in CareerBuilder. However, you must register if you want to get Job Alerts.
Step2
Look at the various search tools provided by CareerBuilder. These include Basic Search, Searching/Browsing jobs by category, Searching jobs by location, Searching jobs by pay package, Searching/Browsing jobs by company, Searching jobs by industry and Searching for international jobs. Each of these is explained below.

Using Basic Job Search

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Enter keywords, location and category on the homepage and click on "Find Jobs." A listing of all jobs that match your criteria will be displayed.
Step2
Refine your job search further by clicking on more options below the job category toolbar on the homepage. You can specify your degree and employment type and search for jobs based on when they were posted. Click "Find Jobs" and the listings that match all the criteria will be displayed.

Browse Jobs by Category

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "Find Jobs" without entering any information. A listing of all jobs will be displayed.
Step2
Click on the categories listed in the "By Category" box on the left of the page. All jobs are categorized. You can select any category from those listed.
Step3
Click on "Show More" to get a complete list of categories.

Search or Browse Jobs by Location

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "Find Jobs" without entering any information. A listing of all jobs will be displayed.
Step2
Click on "By City" on the left panel of the page. A listing of cities in the U.S. will be shown.
Step3
Click on any of the cities. All jobs for that city will be displayed.
Step4
Click on "By State" instead of "By City" to search job postings by state. A listing of all states in the U.S. will be shown.
Step5
Click on any of the states. All jobs for the selected state will be displayed.

Searching Jobs by Pay Package

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "Find Jobs" without entering any information. A listing of all jobs will be displayed.
Step2
Click on "By Pay" on the left panel of the page. Various salary ranges will be displayed. Click on the desired salary range. All jobs that fall within the specified salary range will be displayed. Note that searching for jobs by pay package limits the number of postings displayed, since many companies don't indicate the salary being offered in their job profile.

Browse or Search Jobs by Company

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "By Company" under "More Ways to Search." The Search by Company Name page is displayed.
Step2
Get an alphabetic listing of companies by clicking on the respective letter. For instance, click on "H" to get a list of all companies starting with that letter.
Step3
Click on a company name from the list. This will either take you to the company’s Web site or show all postings by the company. If you are directed to the company’s Web site, you can search for jobs by looking at their "Jobs," "Now Hiring" or similar sections.
Step4
Perform a quick search on the "Search by Company Name" page by entering a company name in the "Enter Company Name" textbar and clicking "Search."

Browse or Search Jobs by Industry

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "By Industry" under "More Ways to Search." The Search by Industry page is displayed.
Step2
Search all jobs within a particular industry by selecting any industry from the "Industry" drop-down menu.
Step3
Refine your search further by entering keywords, city or state in the respective textbars.
Step4
Refine your search further by clicking on the "Advanced Search" icon next to the "Search" button. This will display more options such as freshness of the job posting, employment type, salary range and display by preferences.

Search International Jobs

Step1
Go to CareerBuilder (see link below). Click on "International Jobs" under "More Ways to Search." The International Job Search page is displayed.
Step2
Search for international postings by using the International Job Search window on the left of the page. You can search by country and refine your search further by inputting keywords, categories and freshness of posting (under "More Options").
Step3
Or, visit CareerBuilder’s country-specific portals by clicking on any of the CareerBuilder International Job Sites.

Tips & Warnings

  • CareerBuilder offers the option of a Spanish interface for job search. Click on "En Espanol" under "More Ways to Search" on the homepage. The job search page is displayed in Spanish.
  • After searching for jobs using any of the above-mentioned options, you can save the listings by using the "Save Search" feature. You will have to register in order to use this feature.
  • Many of the job-search options can be used together to refine your search. For instance, you can search by both industry and pay package.
  • Every job posted on CareerBuilder has a Web ID. You can search for a job directly if you know the Web ID. To do so, enter the Web ID in the "By Web ID" textbar provided on the homepage.
