Are you tired of paying HUGE charges for calling from Spain to abroad?? I have been using for a while icallcheap.com which offers calls from 4 cents to 6 cents a minute (Depends on the hour you call, so you can get 4 cents all the time if you plan ahead). In any case 6 cents would still be very good. They even allow calling cellphones for the same price! The best is the fact that you do not have to be buying cards all the time, just remembering the 902 number is enough! You avoid cutting calls short (i.e.: when a phone card finishes all of a sudden)

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Visit http://www.icallcheap.com to see a listing of valid countries, which amounts to more than 50, including the USA.

Step1
Call from any phone line in Spain to 902-999-641.
Step2
When the operator (robot :)) requests dial 1 + 00 + country code (USA is 1) + area code + number

For example to call to the NY number 212-345-6789, you would dial 902-999-641.

Following the operator instructions:
Dial 1-00-1-212-345-6789

Enjoy cheap calling!! :)

Tips & Warnings

  • These calls are originated from the 902 number above (902999641) which is the same as most business have in Spain. Therefore if you call from your office your boss will see in the bill the 902 number, thinking you are callng to a business. (Free Calls!! :))
  • Cheaper calls are from a regular land line and phone booths and from 8pm to 8am (Spain local time) any business day, and all day on weekends and holidays.
  • Calls are more expensive from cell phones, but still much cheaper than calling straight from your cell to your country
  • Some countries allow calls to cell lines, including the US.
  • Check valid countries at http://www.icallcheap.com
  • They charge by the second, not by the minute, like other companies which round up to the highest minute.
  • If you still want to use cards, they offer very cheap virtual phone cards (http://cards.icallcheap.com). You may use cards when calling from a place where you don't want them to pay for the call,so you call through a phonecard's toll-free number.
  • Many calling cards promise you cheap minutes, but from my own experience they do not last at all what they promise. They either round up to the minute, or have huge connecting fees, or have horrible quality, etc.
  • Beware of cheap calling cards where sound and service is less than expected. Sound quality with this company is incredible!
  • Ask your hotel about their phone rates, as many hotels charge you just for access time/"connecting fee" plus the cost of the call.
