How to Play Back Video on Your Camcorder

All camcorders allow you to play back your video recording without removing it from the camcorder. Older camcorders required you to view the video playback through the camcorder's viewfinder. Most camcorders now have LCD screens that flip out, giving you a small television-like screen to view your image.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your camcorder and make sure that the battery has an ample charge, or plug the camcorder into a wall outlet by connecting it to the AC power adapter cord.

    • 2

Place the tape or memory card that you wish to view into the camcorder.

    • 3

Switch your camcorder from RECORDER mode to VCR or PLAYER mode. It will now have the same basic functions as a VCR.

    • 4

Open the LCD screen panel. Some of these are touch screens and display fast forward, rewind, play, stop and pause buttons on-screen.

    • 5

Rewind the recording to the point that you wish to begin the playback. Press the Stop button to end the rewinding process.

    • 6

Press Play to begin viewing the recording. Press Stop when you wish to end the playback.

    • 7

Press the Fast Forward button to return to the point where you last stopped recording so that you don't record over anything the next time you use the tape or memory card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some cameras come with wireless remote controls that allow you to control all of the VCR playback functions from a distance.

  • Using television playback allows you to monitor the stability of the video image more accurately than playback on the camcorder's LCD screen or viewfinder.

  • Remember to set the tape back to the end of the recording after a playback. If you forget to do this, and begin recording again, you will record over previous video images.
