Gain Local Knowledge

Step1
Carry the local currency, the Eastern Caribbean Dollar.
Step2
Use a voltage transformer to operate 110-volt items from the U.S with the 220-volts found in accommodations in Saint George, Grenada.
Step3
Change into semi-formal clothes in the evenings when traveling along the streets or going to stores and restaurants.
Step4
Use cash or traveler's checks to pay for items. Credit cards are accepted by some hotels and shops but not all.

Fly into the Point Salines International Airport on the southwestern tip of Grenada. Direct flights are available only through British Airways, BWIA and American Airlines.

Explore Levera National Park for scenic beaches, local birds and marine life, including a hatchery for sea turtles.

Go to the Market Square to enjoy local parades, fairs, festivals and local life.

Strap on scuba gear and dive into area waters to explore the coral and marine life for cheap. Prices start at $40 for a 1-tank dive.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember the 8 percent government tax at hotels and restaurants and the additional 10 percent service charge many of these places add to your bill.
  • U.S. citizens do not have to procure a visa to go to Grenada.
  • Be sure to have sandals on your feet or some other protection when walking on black sand, because it can be considerably hotter than white sand.
