Saratoga Springs, New York is widely known for the race track of the same name, but that doesn't mean this town is limited to horses and betting all year round. Plenty of other terrific activities await visitors to this quaint little town in the Adirondack Mountains.

Know Your Destination

Step1
Go to the races. Saratoga Springs is home to one of the most popular horse racing venues in the world. People from around the country and the world come to see some of the top thoroughbreds vie for the top prize.
Step2
Know that Saratoga Springs is a city with a wealth of history, having been an important region during the American Revolution.
Step3
Take time to visit Lake George while visiting Saratoga Springs. It is only a short drive away, and offers a wide array of summer activities and accommodations that will entertain you in between races.

Getting Around

Step1
Fly into Albany International Airport for the easiest access to Saratoga Springs, New York. Outlying regional airports, as well as Albany International, are served by hubs in New York City.
Step2
Consider choosing mass transit to reach Saratoga Springs. Mass transit options are terrific in and around the city. It is easy to reach by train, car or bus in just a few hours, depending on your point of origin.

Find Accommodations

To book accommodations, contact Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau at (518) 584-1531 or visit their Web site (see Resources below).

Book accommodations early in order to get them as cheap as possible. This can sometimes mean making reservations as much as six months in advance. Prices rise closer to the opening of the racing season.

Be aware that racing season will drive up prices in even mid-range two-star hotels. The season is at its peak from July to September. Rooms for $200 per night are not unheard of.

Camp for cheap at the nearby Lake George or Adirondack campsites.

Check outlying areas for cheap accommodations. Waterford, Wilton, South Glens Falls and even Providence are great alternatives.
