Venezuela combines a sophisticated atmosphere with beautiful countryside landscapes. For some travelers, Venezuela has a Latin feel with the unmistakable hint of European refinement.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Know Your Destination

Step1
Visit the capital for an urban adventure. Caracas is home to more than three million people and features a number of notable museums, parks and architectural sites of interest.
Step2
Bring helpful translation guides. Spanish is the official language.
Step3
Appreciate nature. Venezuela is considered one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries, due to its flora and fauna.
Step4
Dress for the weather. Venezuela can be hot and humid, but is also moderate and cold at higher altitudes.

Travel to Venezuela

Step1
Take a flight to Caracas from Europe or the United States.
Step2
Travel by boat to your destination. Cargo ships can be taken from the Gulf of Mexico.
Step3
Drive from another location in South America. Cross the border from Colombia at Cucuta.

Go From Place to Place

Step1
Travel by domestic flight. There are about eight carriers that service Venezuela's regional areas.
Step2
Take a bus to get to almost any city in Venezuela. Buses are the main form of transportation here, and prices are low.

Choose Accommodations

Step1
Get a suite in one of Caracas' many elegant hotels. Prices range from around $150 to $250.
Step2
Check out the deals on hammock beds at camps. A two-day tour package with accommodations included will cost around $200.
Step3
Book accommodations at a five-star hotel located at Lake Maracaibo. Expect to pay $150 or more per night.
Step4
Stay at a spa hotel to relax and be pampered in one of the lush settings unique to Venezuela.
Step5
Get your budget accommodations for $20 to $80 per night.

Seek Out Tourist Destinations and Attractions

Step1
Go boating. Venezuela has the largest lake in South America.
Step2
Visit the Salto Angel, the largest waterfall in the world.
Step3
Camp out to watch the wildlife. Cueva del Guacharo is Venezuela's biggest cave, and is inhabited by the oilbird, which lives in total darkness. These birds leave their caves only in search of food, and can be watched at night.
Step4
Listen to music at an outdoor terraced bar in Caracas.

Tips & Warnings

  • For travelers from Australia and New Zealand, purchasing a round-the-world trip may be a better deal.
  • Flying to Venezuela may be difficult or expensive from other South and Central American countries.
  • If you are taking the bus, dress in layers. Air conditioning can make the buses quite cold.
  • Don't count on the train! Venezuela has no rail services.
