What’s more romantic than serenading your girlfriend? If you do your job well, she’ll be looking at you with those dewy, soft eyes and thinking romantic thoughts. Do your job poorly and she will tell you how much she loves your singing voice. Sure, she’s lying, but it’s the thought that counts. Here’s how to serenade your girlfriend and sing your way into her heart.

1. Pick a song. Choose one that is in your singing range and that you know she loves.
2. Determine if you want to play along with the song using a guitar, banjo or other mobile musical instrument.
3. Practice when you are alone or in the shower. You want to surprise her with a great song, not an off-key rendition.
4. Select a location for your serenade. Stay away from noisy and high-traffic areas. Decide if you think it will be more romantic with or without an audience.
5. Choose your time. A small birthday party or anniversary is a good time, or right before bed you can sing toward her open window.
6. Let your heart overflow and serenade your girlfriend. Even if you aren’t a good singer, the thought will make her think you are Barry Manilow.
