How to Find the IEEE 1394 Port on Your Camcorder

It is very easy to find the IEEE 1394 port on your camcorder. This port is what you will use to transfer digital video from your camcorder to a computer.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Consult the owner’s manual for your camcorder. You will see a line drawing or photograph of your camera’s ports

  2. Step 2

    Standard ports include audio, video, memory card and data. Make sure you know the types of ports your camera includes.

  3. Step 3

    Standard IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports on camcorders are located next to the RCA audio and video output ports. These are usually found under a flip-up cover on the rear or side of the camera.

  4. Step 4

    The IEEE 1394 port on your camera is a 4-pin port, which usually measures about ¼ inch across. The ends of the port are flared and rounded.

  5. Step 5

    The IEEE 1394 port on your camera will be labeled as FireWire or as 1394. This will make it easy to find.

  • Turn your camcorder off before plugging or unplugging your IEEE 1394 cable
