Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Research online and consumer magazines for information regarding various camcorders. Check customer feedback regarding audio quality.
Step2
Compare the microphone placement on the camcorders. Some have front-mounted microphones which pick up dialog better, while others have top-mounted microphones which pick up dialog and the surrounding noise.
Step3
Determine the type of microphone the camera has. Unidirectional microphones will pick up sound from the single direction that the camera is pointed, while an omni-directional microphone will pick up sound in all directions.
Step4
See which cameras have wind-filter features. This will help reduce the sound of wind and other background noises.
Step5
Refer to the charts that compare audio quality, and select the camcorder that fits your needs.
