How to Connect a Camcorder to a TV Using S-Video

If you connect your camcorder to your TV using S-video, you will greatly enhance the video playback of your camcorder. S-video is a step up from the yellow RCA cables and sends a better quality video signal to your TV. Follow these steps to learn how to connect a camcorder to a TV using S-video.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • TV
  • S-video cables
  • red and white RCA cables
  • camcorder
  1. Step 1

    Locate the S-video out jack on the back of your camcorder. This should be located on the back of the camcorder near where you would plug in an A/C adaptor.

  2. Step 2

    Take an S-video cable, found at nearly any retailer selling AV equipment, and connect it to the S-video out jack on your camcorder.

  3. Step 3

    Find the S-video in jack on your TV. This should be located on the back of your TV.

  4. Step 4

    Connect the S-video cable to the S-video in jack on your TV.

  5. Step 5

    Locate the audio out jacks on your camcorder. These are located near the S-video out jack on the back of your camcorder. If you do not have audio out jacks, aux out jacks will do just fine.

  6. Step 6

    Plug the red and white RCA cables into the audio out jacks on the back o your camcorder.

  7. Step 7

    Locate the audio in jacks on your TV. If you used the aux out jacks on your camcorder, you will need to find the aux in jacks on your TV instead.

  8. Step 8

    Plug the red and white RCA cables into the audio in/ aux in jacks on the back of your television.

  9. Step 9

    Turn the TV on and turn it to the appropriate line in channel.

  10. Step 10

    Turn on your camcorder and press the play button.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you plug the red and white RCA cables into both the TV and camcorder in addition to the S-video cable. Without the RCA cables, you will not get any sound.
  • Make sure all of your connections are tight.
  • Make sure you connect everything from the camcorder out to the TV in.
