How to Back Up a Blog

Afraid of seeing all the work you've put into your blog just disappear? Take the time to back up your entries before you lose them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Web browser
  • Blog
  • Web page

Step1
Write all of your blog entries in a word processor and save them on your computer before posting. Alternately, copy the text from your blog post into a word processor document after posting, and save the files all in one place.
Step2
Don't want to use hard drive space? Post the same content to two different blogs.
Step3
Look into the backup systems for your blog host—some can compile backups for you.
Step4
Check your blog site profile—some offer to e-mail copies of your entries when they are posted.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use an e-mail service to send copies of your blogs, consider having a dedicated e-mail account to receive your posts.
  • Don't want to do the backups manually? Consider downloading software like Webgrabber to do the backup for you automatically.
  • Not all blogs servers automatically back up your files; don't count on them to do it for you.
  • Saving your posts may be enough for you, but if you want to be able to recreate your entire blog in the case of an accidental delete, you'll also need to back up your blog template.
