Telling that special someone in your life that you love him is hard to do. Often, writing a romantic poem that you can read to him adds a special touch to a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Romantic poetry is a unique, heartfelt way to share your feelings, but it sometimes can be hard to start writing it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thesaurus
  • Pen
  • Computer
  • Stationery
  1. Step 1

Read a few of your favorite poems for inspiration. Get a feel for the rhythm and flow of the poem, and decide which style you would like to emulate.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of all the things you like about the boy. Having a list to refer back to will make it easier when you are trying to finish a line.

  3. Step 3

Sit down in a place where you will not be distracted, and maybe listen to a few of your favorite love songs to get into a romantic mood.

  4. Step 4

Think about the poetry you read earlier, and the list you compiled of his characteristics that you like most.

  5. Step 5

Write down everything that comes to you, even if you don’t think it is good.

  6. Step 6

Revise the poem. Sometimes waiting an hour or two, or even a day, helps give you perspective on the good and bad parts of the poem.

  7. Step 7

Copy the finished poem onto a clean sheet of paper, or use a word processor to print it neatly on the computer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let the poem reflect what you feel. Don’t copy poems you have read previously, or it will come off as fake.
  • Take your time with the poem. Don’t expect to write one in 10 minutes.
  • Make sure the finished copy is neat and clean. No one wants to get a present with eraser marks on it.
  • Don’t ask anyone to help you. Often the way they feel about your boyfriend will color the way you do. Let the poem come from you.
  • Don’t try to make every line rhyme. The rhythm will feel forced if you spend too much time on one line.
