How to Edit iTunes RSS Specifications for Your Podcast

A critical component to maintaining your iTunes podcast is modifying your RSS 2.0 specification feed. Modifying this feed will allow you to keep your readers updated with the latest changes to your podcast.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • RSS feed
  • Podcast
  1. Step 1

    Download your .xml file. Using your favorite FTP program you will need to log into the server that contains your .xml file and download a local copy of the file.

  2. Step 2

    Open your favorite Web site editor or notepad. Create a copy of this file prior to modifying it.

  3. Step 3

    Modify your local .xml file with the editor.

  4. Step 4

    Upload your updated .xml back to the server using your FTP program.

  5. Step 5

    Download your podcast to your MP3 player.

  6. Step 6

    Verify that your tags have been modified.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you have saved a copy of your .xml file prior to making any modifications to the file.
  • Be careful that you have followed all of the iTunes specifications for tags and the modifications correspond to these specifications.
  • Always be careful not to corrupt your Web site when you are using the FTP program.
  • Download your entire Web site prior to the first modification so you have a complete backup available in case something goes wrong.
