When selecting a perfume for your wife, there are some things to keep in mind. Perfumes, like wines, have different fragrances and strengths. Knowing her taste in perfume will help you to select the perfect fragrance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Tour your wife’s perfume selection to learn what kind of fragrance she likes. Does she wear perfume that smells like flowers, musk or the smell of clean linen?

  2. Step 2

Ask your wife if there are any particular fragrances she likes. Maybe there is a new perfume on the market that she would like to try.

  3. Step 3

Call her friends and family. See if they know of any perfume that she may have mentioned or worn in the past.

  4. Step 4

Ask the sales people behind the perfume counter to help you find select perfumes. Ask them to spray their wrist or get a sample card for you. Wait a few minutes, if possible and then smell. Does it smell like something your wife would enjoy?

  5. Step 5

Try various perfume scents. Which one would your wife most prefer?

  6. Step 6

After purchasing your selection, ask the sales associate to wrap your package.

  • Though keeping her in mind, also consider your own taste in fragrance. Be sure to avoid selecting something that will repel you.
  • Talking to her family members could provide resourceful in learning her perfume history. Did she used to wear a certain perfume that she would like to have again?
  • Clean your sense of smell with a neutral odor, such as coffee beans, between perfumes. Some retailers will have some behind the counter.
  • Presentation can be just as important as the gift. Take care in choosing a gift bag or special wrapping for your gift.
  • Some women are allergic to certain perfume fragrances. Be sure to choose something that won’t cause your wife to have an allergic reaction.
