Mastermind of the wedding? Check. Organizer of the reception? Check. Planner of the honeymoon? Planning the honeymoon is a snap compared to what you went through with the wedding. Just a little research, a little leg work and before you know it, you and your spouse will be soaking up those delirious first days as a married couple.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Budget your honeymoon. Make a list of costs for airfare, rentals, food, lodging and entertainment. Get this early on so you can save up the funds.
Step2
Agree on a destination. Also, select a couple of alternatives just in case something comes up at the last minute.
Step3
Research your destination. Look up everything from the climate to the hottest nightclubs.
Step4
Make an itinerary. But, resist the urge to micromanage your time.
Step5
Minimize travel time. Maximize together time. Balance active stuff with kicked back activities.
Step6
Coordinate time off from work or school. This tends to be the second most limiting factor of a honeymoon, right behind the budget concerns.
Step7
Shop around to get the best travel deals.
Step8
Allow for emergencies and changes of plans. Have a reserve of money and time built into the honeymoon plan.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to plan your honeymoon departure 1 to 2 days after your wedding. That will give you time to get your affairs in order before leaving.
  • Foreign travel requiring a visa also requires a longer lead-time for planning.
  • Off-season destinations can be significantly cheaper and less crowded than a destination during peak tourist season.
  • The itinerary is a tool not a taskmaster. Know when to throw the itinerary away.
  • Layovers, delays and weather are inevitable. Use them to bond. For better or for worse, remember?
