  • Tanzanian currency cannot be imported or exported, so you will need to convert your money once you arrive in the country.

  • All phone numbers include the United States international prefix "011." When calling internationally outside the United States, substitute that "011" with "00." All country codes are within parentheses and begin with a "+" sign.

  • Register with the nearest U.S. Embassy when you land in Tanzania.

  • Be sure to keep your passport with you at all times, and store it in a safe place during your visit. Losing your passport will wreak havoc on your travel plans and budget.

  • This area has experienced a high level of terrorist attacks and Americans are common targets.

  • Theft and assaults are a major problem in this city. Avoid wandering the city alone, and protect your property.
